Game on in Ajith style

It’s Ajith’s 50th venture. What more it s directed by Venkat Prabhu with
betting scandal in cricket as its theme. A huge star cast including Trisha,
Arjun among others raised all expectations. Thats Mankatha. Lets check out the
review.

Story

Mankatha is a racy and adrenaline-rushing story of a Maharshatra police officer
Vinayak Mahadevan (Ajith)  who is suspended for helping a smuggler to
escape from police encounter. He starts leading life in his own way. He falls
for Sanjana (Trisha), daughter of an influential local goon Arumuga Chettiyar
(Jayaprakash) in Mumbai. A tough cop Prithvi (Arjun) takes charge to end
betting scandal in IPL cricket in Mumbai. Arumuga uses his links with dons in
Mumbai tries to route through his old theatre , a cash of over Rs 500 crore to
be used in betting.

Sumanth (Vaibhav), a goon working for Arumuga Chettiyarplans to take away the
booty with the help of his friends Ganesh (Ashwin), Mahanth (Mahanth), who owns
a bar in Mumbai and Prem (Premji), a IIT graduate. Vinayak joins the race. he
promises to help them and divide it between them. Trouble starts after they
take away the acsh. Both Arumugha Chettiyar and police are now on their heels.
Meanwhile, Mahanth and Prem escape with the cash. It all upto Vinayak now. The
battle shifts between him and Prithvi.

Performance

Its Ajith all the way. He is simply amazing in the role of a dreaded baddie.
With his usual looks sans makeup, he hogs all limelight. His one-liners brings
laughter.  Arjun does the role of a cop once more. But he is charming
here. Trisha and Lakshmi Rai does play their part well.  Andrea as Arjun’s
wife and Anjali in the role of Vaibhav’s wife do minuscule roles.Vaibhav gets a
meaty role and he utilise the opportunity.  Premji did what he did in Goa
and Chennai 28.

Technicalities

It is technically well-made. Sakthi Saravanan’s lens captures the stunts well.
It forms the backbone of the movie. Yuvan Shankar’s tunes add variety to it.
His open song Mankatha…is celebrated in theatres. Director Venkat Prabhu
seems to have done his part well.  He has laced thrills, spills and humour
in right mix.

Analysis

Mankatha is boyish film. It is all racy and rivetting. The first half is light
and simple. The game really begins in latter part. With Venkat Prabhu and Ajith
giving their best, Mankatha rocks all time.

Mark – 3.5/5

Branson may join B'wood star in racing league

MUMBAI: British tycoon Richard Branson may partner with a prominent star family of Bollywood to buy a team in i1 Super Series, an Indian motor sporting league backed by Sachin Tendulkar, said sources directly involved with the talks.

Branson and the local partners are likely to invest through a special purpose vehicle, India Entertainment Company, which has signed a letter of intent (LoI) to discuss ownership interest in Bangalore franchise, sources added. The family from Bollywood has business interests in the hospitality industry.

With this, Branson may land up with a motor racing team in Bangalore, which is home to his Formula-1rival and UB Group Chairman Vijay Mallya. The team ownerships worth $5 million are by invitation and not on auction. Siddarth Mallya, the young scion who manages UB Group’s sporting businesses, too had shown early interest in the i1 Super Series, sources said. But it is not clear where India’s beer to airline conglomerate stands on this proposal right now.

Machdar Motor Sports Private Ltd plans to launch a league with nine teams, which are city based franchises on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in cricket. Each team will have two cars making it an eighteen-member race grid. The first season with 14 weekend races starts on December 18 and draws to end on February 25, 2012. The eight teams will be racing on tracks in New Delhi, Chennai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Qatar and Sepang.

Machdar Moror Sports officials declined to comment on this report. An emailed query to Virgin Group’s India office elicited no response at the time of going to press.

India’s movie stars along with business groups have been eying sporting and entertainment ventures in recent times, with many of them signaling interest in the latest motor sporting league. Bollywood celebrities and corporate houses have held discussions regarding joint ownership of the Mumbai team but there is no final decision on this yet, sources said declining to divulge details.

Machdar has been in advanced discussions to finalize ownership of at least five teams. Jaypee Group, which is promoting the country’s first Formula-1 track in Noida, is interested in owning the Delhi team, while cricketer Yuvraj Singh along with a business associate has signed LoI for Chandigarh franchise.

Tamil super star Surya is partnering with a local corporate Appaswamy Group, a large hospitality and real estate player down South, for the Chennai team. Dubai firm FidelisWorld, which co-owns United Sikkim Football Club along with Baichung Bhutia and singer Shankar Mahadevan, too have send in LoI for a team ownership.

Branson owns a stake in Formula One team Marussia Virgin Racing storming the Grand Prix as a team owner for the first time in 2009. Russian car maker Marussia came in as majority shareholder subsequently, after the British billionaire’s F-1 ambitions failed to take off on expected lines.

Is your computer safe? « IPL Blog

With the very significant media coverage of “Cyber” attacks it can be seen that being secure online is about more than just having the latest antivirus installed. However it is not always obvious how significant the risk is or what what be done to be more secure.

Here I look at  2 issues that are significant causes of users getting infected with malware and some practical advice about being more secure.

Passwords, love them or hate them, they are the primary way of protecting your online identity. The password you use for an account should be treated the same way you treat your house or car keys, probably both combined in fact. Would you give them to somebody you don’t know? Hopefully not but this is exactly what you do when you use the same password for more than one account. This report shows a shocking 92% of people re-using passwords.

It isn’t reasonable to expect someone to remember a different password for every account they have, particularly as they should also be strong passwords and changed every three months. Picking appropriate passwords is something that will be covered in a future blog but for now please dont use 123456 this is used for an estimated 1 in 60 of all passwords! Using this is like leaving the keys in the car ignition, eventually someone is going to spot this and have a good time at your expense.

A practical solution is to let your PC manage the problem for you, it’s creating the problem afterall. There are a number of solutions out there but here I pick one that I have tried and found to work well.

Lastpass is a very competent solution with the benefit they have a free online solution. It is simple to use and can automatically fill in web pages making it simpler to use.  There have been security issues with Lastpass and should someone gain access to your master password they would have access to all of your passwords, however if you only have one password to remember you can make it very secure and not tell anyone. In the interest of fairness 1Password looks to offer a similar solution. In all likelihood there will be many more offerings available soon.

Just be careful to buy a legitimate copy, I image it won’t be long before a fake password manager is being distributed. If you ever see a message stating your password is insecure and this can be fixed for £39.99 by installing a password manager then please ignore it.

Another significant problem is keeping your PC up to date with all of the latest patches/releases along with identifying software that is no longer supported. Once security vulnerability is discovered it becomes a race between the vendor to release a patch and the “bad” guys to exploit the vulnerability. However once the patch is released it could be weeks before the patch gets installed.

Secunia PSI is a tool designed to do this for you. It looks at all of the programs installed on your PC and then identifies vulnerable and out of date programs. As someone who puts some effort into always having everything up to date I was interested in seeing what it could find. Following the install it detected 100 programs, 12 of which were not properly patched and 1 which was no longer supported. Secunia PSI made it very simple to update all of the programs that were out of date and I was very impressed with the simplicity of the system. This is an application that I would thoroughly recommend.

However, keeping you system completely up to date isn’t without its own problems. One of the updates affected the compatibility of it with the rest of the system another highlighted a more significant issue. I am a huge fan of Adobe Photoshop, and when CS was released in 2003 I purchased a full version of it. It was that good I never really bothered with upgrading it to one of the subsequent versions. I was and am, very happy with the original CS. Now that CS2, 3, 4 and 5 have been released the original CS has been end-of-lifed. That means should someone discover vulnerability in it there won’t be a patch. So do I buy the lasted version for £657.60 or just risk that the photos I download from the internet don’t have anything nasty?

Answers on a postcard, but no images please!
