Ahmedabad: It looks like the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit-2011 will touch new heights.

Apart from Canada deciding to partner Gujarat at the meet, there are good chances that business tycoon Gautam Adani will present an Indian Premier League (IPL) ‘gift’ to the state in the form of Deccan Chargers.

Despite having a world-class facility at the Motera stadium, Ahmedabad lost to lesser-known centres such as Pune and Kochi in the IPL franchise auction held earlier this year. It was a rude shock, not only for fans but for the GCA officials as well, because the chances of the Adani-led consortium bagging an Ahmedabad team were high.

Expectations were high because Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, who is also GCA president, reportedly took personal interest in the Adani bid. But Sahara Group and Rendevous Sports World rolled a heavy roller on Motera stadium’s aspirations.

Hopes have been revived once again with reports suggesting that the owners of Deccan Chargers are willing to sell their Hyderabad team and Adanis are showing a whopping $300m interest in it. The Adani Group, however, has termed it as rumours.
